One of the major tourist destinations in Africa is Mombasa, a coastal city in Kenya that is home to some of the best white sand beaches in the world. The calculated flying distance from Nairobi to Mombasa is equal to 274 miles (441 km). By car, the driving distance is 483.18 km (6h 02 min at 50 mph /80 km/h). By SGR the distance is 472km, taking 4h 30min.
Unique Cultural visit of Mombasa Town includes: a visit to Fort Jesus Historical Museum, Old dhow harbor in Old Town, a visit to the bazaar, and the market, the Elephant Tusks Monuments and the Akamba woodcarvers to buy souvenirs.
Fort Jesus – the gigantic structure that lies in the CBD next to Old Town – was built by the Portuguese in 1593-1596 to protect the harbor. The famous Moi Avenue Elephant tusks were used in the filming of adventure movies made about Africa.
